I love Nicole Williams so of course I had to read this book once it came across my path. Crossing Stars is a modern day Romeo and Juliet with a mafia twist.
When Josette Costa, daughter of the head Italian mobster Blue Krait, crosses the line into Irish territory, she runs into trouble only to be saved by Rylan. Call it love at first sight or lack of knowledge but the two can not keep away from each other. With both of them being heirs to the major crime bosses in the city they come across numerous challenges yet plan their escape to run away together.
This is the first book in a series and while I love the idea of it, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I'm sure I'll finish the series just to see what becomes of their forbidden relationship and because I'm a sucker for Nicole Williams books and Romeo & Juliet.

A modern day Romeo and Juliet story with its own flair.
While the city of Chicago sleeps, a war wages in the streets between two powerful families. In a time when the public assumes organized crime is nothing more than a chapter torn out of
America’s history, the Costa and Moran family battle for territory and domination.
Caught up in the middle of this sinister world is Josette, the only child of Salvatore Costa, the ringleader and notorious godfather of Chicago’s Italian mafia circle. After an assassination attempt when she was a child by the Irish Moran’s, her parents have hidden her from the outside world, barricading her behind the walls of their sprawling estate and keeping her contact with outsiders to a minimum. But now Josette’s eighteen and starting to question if living a long life locked behind walls is worth trading for a potentially short one filled with excitement and adventure and all the things she’s only lived in her dreams. Up until now.
On the night she decides to risk becoming just another face in the crowd, Josette realizes that death isn’t only a possibility if she leaves her protected walls,it’s a certainty. Yet when a young man comes to her rescue, the turbulent waters between life and death are further muddied.
Rylan is everything Josette isn’t . . . and she’s everything he isn’t. She’s sheltered, he’s worldly.
She’s thoughtful, he’s hot-headed. She’s sweet, he’s rough around the edges. She’s harmless,
he’s dangerous. Despite all of their differences, there’s one that shadows them all. One difference that means they can never be together unless they’re ready to accept they’ll be hunted by the entire underground crime world as long as they live.
She’s a Costa. And he’s a Moran.
